Annette's rowing triumph
Wednesday, May 9, 2018

Taunton woman who suddenly lost her sight in December has completed a sponsored row for local charity Somerset Sight.

Annette White, 64, from Taunton, has been grappling with a range of medical problems for years; she is a wheelchair user and has diabetes and MS. One morning in December last year she woke up and could barely see anything.

In desperation Annette turned to Somerset Sight for help. “The team have been a wonderful support providing me with emotional support and helping me learn braille. I have attended a course to help me find practical ways to cope with hugely reduced vision and joined an outing to Wimbleball Lake on Exmoor.”

Following the support she received Annette decided to give something back to the charity and take on a sponsored challenge that took her way out of her comfort zone.

On Monday 30th April Annette completed a sponsored 1 mile row at Wellsprings Gym which she completed in 10 minutes 5 seconds.

So far she has raised over £250 and is still collecting donations here

Holly Sutton Fundraising and Development Officer for Somerset Sight said “we are immensely proud of Annette for completing this feat. We are heavily reliant on fundraising and donations to continue our vital services and support for visually impaired people across the county so are very grateful to her for thinking of Somerset Sight.”
