A Harvest of reading from Hayesdown First School
Tuesday, November 7, 2017

Hayesdown First School in Frome focused their Harvest Celebration this year on the joy of books.......

and reading as well as the gift of sight.

The gift of sight enables us to enjoy the wealth of books we have access to. During the Harvest Service each year group made a short presentation, giving thanks for the gift of books and reading.

After the Service they all took part in a Harvest book swap where they brought in books they had enjoyed but no longer needed and made a donation in exchange for a new book or two to take home. Through the book swap they raised a fantastic £205, which was collected in a wheelbarrow, specially decorated for the occasion by Miss Cooper. The pupil council decided who they would like to donate the money to and they very kindly chose to give it to Somerset Sight, to continue to support people in Somerset who are visually impaired.

Each month across the remainder of the school year children will visit local care homes and nurseries to read to / share stories with residents and young children.

If your school would like to do some fundraising for us we'd be thrilled to hear from you.  Please contact Holly on 01823 366147 or email her here.
