Vital Training for Volunteers
Monday, March 12, 2018

Somerset Sight has trained 10 new volunteers so far this year and provided refresher training for 5 existing volunteers.

All new Somerset Sight volunteers complete one day’s training in Visual Impairment Awareness and existing volunteers are always welcome to attend refresher training if they choose to. This ensures that all volunteers can support visually impaired people confidently and with empathy.

Dee Gibbs from Yeovil who attended the March course said ‘I thoroughly enjoyed the course; it was great to get a real insight into the challenges visually impaired people face. I especially liked the guiding with blindfolds.’ Dee will be joining our team of volunteer visitors who visit people in their homes for companionship and practical support.

Somerset Sight are always looking for new volunteers for fulfil a variety of roles supporting sight impaired people and raising much needed funds. Please contact Kate on 01823 333818 or email to find out more.
